Barker Footwear – Care & Maintenance of Your Barker Shoes

With the exceptional craftsmanship that is used in the production of your Barker shoes, it doesn't take a lot to maintain and care for them, ensuring they continue to serve you as well as Barker intended. Therefore, here are a few hints and tips as to how to keep your Barker shoes in exceptional quality:

Do place a shoe tree inside your shoes when you're not using them in order to preserve the shape of your Barker shoes.
Do wash Nubuck leather shoes with a slightly damp cloth and soapy lukewarm water.
Do brush suede shoes to maintain the nap of the shoe, using a specialised brush and cleaner to do so.
Do clean your leather shoes with a high quality polish or cream, buffing the polish away with a cloth to create the high-quality shine.
Do consult manufacturing guidelines before using any products or carrying any cleaning methods out to ensure that no products are used that could potentially damage your shoes.
Don't leave your shoes until the dirt has built up to such an extent that ones shoes are no longer recognisable! You should regularly remove any dirt from your shoes using a soft brush or damp cloth. Equally, every once in a while you should clean the eyelets and seams of the shoes as dirt can become trapped there.
Don't dry your shoes in front of artificial forms of heat, e.g. electric heater / radiator / fire. This can damage the properties of your leather beyond repair. All leather shoes need drying slowly and naturally. Stuffing them with newspaper does allow for a speed up in the process, absorbing any excess moisture.
