Josef Seibel Footwear – Manufacturing The European Comfort Shoe

Evidently, to have acquired the status of being the European Comfort Shoe, Josef Seibel have obviously been ensuring that all of the technologies and techniques within their manufacturing processes have been to the highest of standards. Their brand philosophy of providing shoes and boots of excellence, they have continued to use leather of exceptional quality, crafting their shoes in traditional hand-made techniques.

The Hand-Stitching Method:

A method that is carried out entirely by hand, each shoe that is produced with this manufacturing process is completely unique. The upper is attached to the sole by hand-stitching and as each stitch will differ from each craftsman, the shoe will be quite unique and always of the best quality. Machine stitching often reduces the flexibility of the shoe, which provides another advantage for hand-stitching as it allows for more flexibility.

The Strobel Method:

To ensure flexibility is maintained, the lining and upper of the shoe are sewn together before the sole of the shoe is attached.

The Flexible Method:

The lining, insole and upper of the shoe are sewn together to create a welt seam; a distinguished feature within any shoe. This is now mostly carried out by machine but would normally have been carried out by hand. The second seam is created when the upper leather is placed outside the shoe and before the sole of the shoe is glued on.

Ago Method:

The insole of a shoe will be tacked onto a last before the shaft (the top) of the shoe is pulled over the last and attached to the insole of the shoe with glue. This creates a base for the sole to be glued to, where it is then compressed at a high temperature to provide an incredibly durable shoe.
