Josef Seibel Footwear – Cleaning & Caring For Your Josef Seibel Shoes

As Josef Seibel have continued to use the highest quality of materials and manufacturing processes within the production of their shoes and boots, the maintenance of them couldn't be simpler. Leather shoes and boots can often become scruffier with time if they aren't cared for properly, which is why it is important to maintain them correctly.

The following instructions are recommended for smooth leather boots and shoes. If this doesn't apply to your shoe then you should always consult the manufacturers guidelines before carrying out the following advice.

1. Space To begin polishing your shoes you should first allocate an area in which you will do this. Polish can stain and damage surfaces/clothing, so always be sure that you put newspaper down to protect these surfaces, and wear old clothes to protect them.
2. Clean Make sure your shoes are as clean as possible before you begin polishing your shoes to ensure maximum polishing can be provided. Clean your shoes with a cloth or brush, removing laces to clean the eyelets and scrubbing stitching that attaches the sole to the upper. If you are finding that your shoes aren't cleaning, then it could be advisable to use a damp cloth or leather cleaner to remove any stubborn dirt.
3. Polish An old item of cotton clothing is ideal for applying the polish to your shoes. Apply a small amount of polish to this cloth and generously rub this into all areas of the leather shoes. If you do find certain areas hard to reach, place a brush underneath the cloth to get into these difficult to reach areas (e.g. seams).
4. Dry Allow the polish to dry and soak into the leather. Around 15 minutes should be suffice. You may find that you need to remove any excess polish after, where it hasn't soaked in, do so with a soft brush or cloth.
5. Buff Using a clean cloth, rub over the leather to bring it out in a shine. Again, if you do find some areas are hard to reach, you may want to employ the brush under the cloth technique again.
6. Re-apply You may find that after this process, parts of your shoes still look a little dull. This will have occurred particularly if you haven't polished them for a while. You may then wish to repeat the process.
