Looking After Your Hunter Wellies - Cleaning, Storing & Blooming Care.

“Blooming” - a common process that occurs with Hunter wellingtons and often raises concern within owners of Hunters. However, the blooming process is a completely natural one, and can be delayed and prevented with a few simple care tips. When blooming does occur, some faint blue or white marks may start to appear on the surface of the boot. These marks are caused by the natural wax within the boot being released to the surface, and this does not affect the performance of the wellington boot. The natural wax is used within the vulcanization process (rubber treatment process).

Cleaning:

After using your wellingtons, particularly if they have got considerably dirty, it is always a good idea to give your wellies a quick wash to help maintain their high-quality.
Wipe your wellies with lukewarm soapy water and leave to dry naturally. Please note: do not use solvents.
The use of liquid detergent with lukewarm water is thought to efficiently remove dirt or a teaspoon of baking powder for more stubborn dirt.
After use; always make sure your wellingtons are free of dirt, in particular the sole and zip (if this features on your wellingtons).
To preserve the colour and flexibility of your wellingtons, Hunter have introuduced a UV Tech Cleaner, which helps in the preservation process.

Storing:

Never store your Hunter wellingtons anywhere where there is direct sunlight or artificial lighting as this can reduce the life of the rubber in your wellingtons.
Try not to store your Hunter wellies outside as this can cause cracking and drying up.
Always store your wellingtons in a cool, dry and dark place. Please note: your wellingtons should not be put into storage when damp.
Do not fold your wellingtons when placing them into storage as this could lead to your wellingtons cracking after a period of time. If your wellingtons are naturally folding over, then try to keep them upright by stuffing them with newspaper to keep them stiff.
The Hunter Boot Bag is the perfect place to store your wellingtons.

Additional Information:

With all footwear, after repeated use, the sole can become worn and this could in turn cause your wellingtons to lose some grip and cause slipping. Therefore, if you are wanting your wellingtons for high performance or think you may require a more durable sole; the Hunter Balmoral range would be a better option.

To regain any shine that may be lost from your Hunter Original Gloss wellingtons, try to buff them with a soft gloss to return them to their natural shine.
Always be careful if exposing your Hunter wellingtons to anything that has animal fats, oils or solvents as these can cause the rubber to swell and reduce the grip on the sole.
As Hunter wellingtons contain natural rubber some people could be allergic to this product, so always be careful if you know of such allergies or experience any symptoms after wear.

There is no reason as to why your Hunter wellingtons won't lead a long and happy life if a little tender loving care is implemented. Hunter wellingtons are made of exceptionally high-quality and should retain their high-quality whatever the weather or activity.
