Rieker was first founded in 1874 by Herr Heinrich Rieker in the Black Forest Region of Germany in the town of Tuttlingen. Since then, the Rieker footwear brand has remained firmly within the family, with five generations of Rieker's expanding and contributing to the brands international reputation.

Rieker's first customers were generally from the Northern part of Italy and of a wealthy status, choosing Rieker for its high-quality, fashionable and durable shoes. Founded on this customer base, Rieker have continued to manufacture and produce shoes that are worthy of this high-quality status, whilst being accessible and affordable to a wider range of customers. Their customers now range across the world; with 62 countries and around 7,500 independent retailers selling the Rieker shoes.

The Rieker brand philosophy is to provide the footwear market with shoes that aren't simply better than other footwear brands, but that are the best.
