In order to live up to the same high standards of the leather upper of the boots, the sole of the R.M.Williams boots have to be of the same calibre. Thus, all of their soles are tailored to meet the different requirements of the boots, from the dress boots to their work boots.
Welt Sole Boot: used in various styles, including the dress shoes; these soles are very defined and durable, easily moulding to the shape of the foot for added comfort. A strip of welting leather is attached to the insole and upper of the shoe which is then stitched to the sole using a wax dipped thread. This type of sole gives the boots the following features:
The Screwed Sole: a soft brass, screw threaded wire is used in this manufacturing process which screws the sole to the leather of the shoe. With the brass being a soft metal, this will wear down at the same rate as the leather of the sole, which adds to the overall comfort of the sole. This type of sole is perfect for riding, dress and work boots.
Longhorn Treaded Sole: made of stout rubber this sole has a significant mould to its tread.
Longhorn Plain Sole: similar to the above but with a minimal, non-slip tread.
The designs and innovations that have gone in R.M.Williams boots is clear, and in-keeping with traditions whilst also adding modern technologies to the boots, e.g. the thermo-plastic toe stiffeners. Every intricate little detail has been considered when it comes to the production of R.M.Williams boots, allowing them to be some of the highest, if not the highest, quality of boots on the market today.
