The History of the Timberland Footwear Brand
The beginning of Timberland rises from a modest shoe-maker, who dedicated many of his years to earning an honest living in shoe manufacturing. Then, in 1952, Nathan Swartz purchased half interest in the Abington Shoe Company based in Massachusetts and it was with the full purchasing of this shop just three years later in 1955 that the Timberland brand began to grow. Introducing his sons into the equation, the Abington Shoe Company began to manufacture shoes for private labels.
With ten years dedication to improving the quality of their footwear, the Swartz family developed the first every injection mould features of a shoe in 1965; allowing for the first ever fully waterproof shoe as there was no longer need for the upper to be stitched to the sole. Thus, continuing to pave the way for the footwear industry, they stormed the footwear market with their first ever Timberland boot in 1973. With their continued success, the Swartz family finally transformed the Abington Shoe Company into the Timberland Company in 1978.
Since then, Timberland have continued to alter the footwear industry, always appearing to bring a touch of something special to their products, customers and employees. Following establishment, Timberland have introduced a unique voluntary scheme for their employees called The Path of Service, which allows them to take paid annual leave to do community service. Additionally, the Timberland brand is entirely dedicated to improving the environment, always looking for new initiatives that will reduce their environmental footprint.
With their motto being “Doing Well and Doing Good” it is clear that Timberland aren't just boots of a high-quality, but a loyal brand that customers can trust in. The honest outset has firmly rooted the Timberland brand in a footwear brand that will continue to revolutionise its products, whilst always considering those around it first.
